The Perpetual Darkness

I just feel that whining about this issue at hand will make me feel better. Well writing about it will do the same. At least I will let out my frustration and try and clear my head!

I don't know what is going on with Nigeria right now. Light {electricity} is terrible, in fact light has become non-existing in my area. I really wonder what can be done without electricity. Is hot, it's damn hot!

To make matter worse and more complicated, there is fuel scarcity in the country, No petrol to power the generator. That means a lot- if not everything is at a standstill. Can't watch TV, can't be on the system for long, can't work, can't rest, can't iron my clothes... Can't nothing!

This has become a little messy and a lot frustrating. This is not a good image for my country. I don't want to give up on Nigeria but I need some reassurance that we are moving forward and still not whining about electricity issue. This is has being as old has our independence!

That is one of the biggest issue I have with Nigeria. I love Nigeria but when I think of the no light always generator situation it makes me rethink relocating back. I mean even if you have the best generator in the world it will malfunction if it has to work 24/7. I just don't know...

Since we're all shouting

I'm third

Like Taire said, that one thing I have never understood, that Nigeria being who she is, still has to fight with something as meager as light.....don't we supply a neighbouring country with electricity?

Without something as essential as eletricity how will an other avenue or industry grow?

Nigeria we hail thee

Electricity is one of the oldest issues that still hasn't been tackled in this great country of ours. And honestly, i haven't got a clue why this issue hasn't been addressed. All i hear is that it is getting worse by the minute...

It is giving us, a whole giant of Africa, a not-so-good image...

I'm going home foe the summer and not looking forward to the power issues.

It one word, CORRUPTION. bILLIONS GONE TO OLD MEN'S POCKETS AND THEIR KIDS SHOPPING SPREES AND PARTIES.

I met an African-American who visited Lagos in the 1980s before I was even born. He asked if NEPA had changed and I said "Nope, just the name PHCN but its still the same in 2009!"

Dearest Standtall, I'm sorry I haven't visited for a while; you know, "stuff" going on. I sense things are not good for you or Nigeria at present. I think of you often, even when I don't visit. We get little news of Nigeria here in the UK but I have thought it to be one of the more stable African countries, so why, why, why are you being deprived of electricity? This is just wrong!

The lady in the clock was me, about 20 years ago, lol! My good friends Cristina and Phil thought up the idea and took the photos, then merged them to give the result. So clever, as it was before digitalisation, so I don't know how they did it. Clever, ay?!

Take care my dear. Hugs for you and the kitties :) xxx

I know this post was to whine but i actually like it. It's really sad that a country surrounded by contries that have electricty or according to rumors provides electricity to other countries- can not provide electricity to its own inhabitants. I can only imagine how frasutrating it can be. Even is there wasnt fuel scarcity- the cost of running a gen is high. The things that we that live in the western world take for granted. :(

Considering you have a tonne of oil, you should have no problems with electricity! We have outages on a regular basis but it's not for very long - maybe an hour or so. And of course the whole house blows whenever there is thunder. This never happens in the UK but is standard in Spain, Indonesia and Malaysia. Makes you wonder why.

BTW, I'm passing you an international blogger meme tomorrow on my blog because I find your entries interesting.

I'm at http://www.lepak.com/katztales.html

I thought I was going nuts! When there is power we get less than 10 volts imagine? You still have to put on a generator to make anything work. The fuel issue is making the traffic crazy. I am almost at that stage where I start screaming!

Hope things improve soon Pele

One would think with all the money being generated in Nigeria they'd have enough to fix that. Sigh.
Its so unenvironmental too. I remember staying in the Sheraton Abuja watching their huge generator start up with all that thick, black smoke going up in the blue,cloud-free sky. Shame.

Haven't you heard? If you can't join them, beat them! lol.
My dad who is almost never around decided to go on a 2 week leave at the wrongest time; our shift on NEPA's time-table is 12midnight to 12noon for these two weeks, guess what? our generator was acting up, so I get back from work on monday and there's a new generator! it powers the A/Cs, the freezer, all the TVs, everything and the power key is upstairs right in my room, so when NEPA acts up, i get off my bed and turn the key! Cool, eh?; I just concluded that PHCN had FRUSTRATED my dad to the T.
There's nothing you can do, beat them!!!

Too bad for us ain't it? Just shake ur head side to side and move on. A la Achebe, the situation in Nigeria is like that of the weather, you complain and discuss but can't do anything about it and move on

This issue of electricity ehnnn. I really wonder when we will stop whining about it, I mean it is ridiculous! Such basic things in life are scarce in our country. Let's not even talk about that yeye 'half current', like you might as well just go and take the entire light na! Rubbish!
