But Why?

This is so wrong!
A bus was ambushed by armed robbers somewhere in Nigeria in 2009, the passengers were robbed and raped, those that had nothing to give were asked to lie down on the road face down and a bus ran over them, killing everyone instantly!!!! But why?

I just got to read of the true story of what happened in The Sun newspaper.

The incident did not happen as you heard. The real story was that a truck driver who was transporting goods came upon a robbery scene where a luxurious bus was being robbed and the victims were told to lie flat on the road.

On reaching the scene, he saw the gunmen and what he thought were barricades on the road. Out of panic as the robbers shot at him, he sped his truck over the 'barricades' only to crash into the bush. He jumped down and escaped into the forest still not not knowing what he had done.

It was not until the next morning when the robbers had gone on hearing sirens that he came out and saw that the 'barricades' had been human beings.

The driver broke down and wept then went to surrender himself to the police. He was eventually released but was traumatised. He said he could no longer stand the sight of meat.

The pictures have been circulating the internet with wrong information. It wasn't robbers who did it, it was actually an accident in the process of a robbery.

The incident happened in July 31, 2009. So its even old news! Na wah for internet oh!

@ Afronuts: thanks for your interest in researching through information. My believe was this was a different incident from the one you speak that happened on July,2009.

I was in Nigeria when that happened and what the radio report has was that the robbers asked the people with no money to lie flat on the express and ask allowed a truck to run over them.

I will adjsut my update though.

whichever story is true - whether Standtall's or Afro's, the outcome is still horrifying and still as a result of robbery! seriously where is this our country going? did the government have anything to say to this or was it merely the case of another few useless Nigerians dying? ah!

My Aunt was in that bus!!! It happened last year and when she told us the story, it sent chills down my spine. The robbers robbed them and told pregnant women & babies to stay in the bus. The others were told to lie flat on the road. Luckily for her she was lying at the edge of the road near the bushes. The truck driver was scared when he saw the robbers, the robbers tried to stop him but he sped past out of fear. And it happened at midnight/early hours of the morning. The robbers fled after that, and the survivors fled into the bush till the day was bright and help came when it was already too late. It was horrible and a gory sight. Some passengers she sat with and chatted with in the bus didn't make it. Sooo sad! :( God help Nigeria.

My Passion, my focus, the change that I want to see in the world - is my propellent factor.
